Yes. To urge. To attain.
By Priya Naidoo

I promised to post my final pictures of this frame and tell you what this beautiful word/ syllable/ sound means to me.
So here we go.
In my research of Aum, what I have discovered is that, “Yes. To urge. To attain. ” is just some of the original meanings of that most calming sound. There are many meanings to this syllable, all of which you can Google. To be quite honest, there is so much of information out there that to choose which one you’re going to read needs researching as well!
What Aum means to me is simple: it is calmness, relaxation of the mind and soul, oneness with the world around me. I don’t use it often, but sometimes my mind gets so cluttered that I need something to ground myself and recharge my very soul.

A while back someone released a video stating that NASA discovered the sound of the Sun, and that it is Aum. It’s not. In fact that has been disproven. But is Aum a cosmic sound?
I don’t know if it is, what I do know is that when I utter Aum, whether it is out loud or just a silent mind hum, it immediately connects my thoughts to all around me. What could be more cosmic then that?
It is a recognisable sound, no matter where in the world you are. It is in Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism and so many more. It can be used regardless of your religion, just to centre yourself. So use it.
In my previous post on Lord Ganesha, I mentioned that I am not at all religious, and I maintain that. I am however, very spiritual and I recognise the need to calm my soul. So AUM it is.
